Wedding FAQs

How do we choose a wedding photographer?

Choosing a wedding photographer is a big deal, so I wish you luck!  Obviously, it’s really important for you to get the right person for your day, so here is is a page about what I’d look out for when selecting your wedding photographer.  Meeting up before making a decision is a good idea, and I am always happy to meet for a no-obligation cup of tea.

How far will you travel?

Anywhere!  I work primarily in the Oxford area, but have worked with brilliant couples in London, Birmingham, Cambridge and Devon.  I would love to do more work even further afield, so if you are traveling somewhere special for your nuptials, get in touch.

Do you photograph civil partnerships?

Yes.  And I believe in equal rights for all, regardless of age, gender, race, sexuality.  One love.

How do we book you?

I like to meet couples before they book wherever possible, to talk them through the booking process.  Booking requires an email, contract and non-refundable £300.00 booking fee.

What are your rates?

I tailor my packages to fit with your needs, but a full day’s coverage is around the £1150.00 mark.  I also offer packages for shorter and mid-week weddings.

When is the final balance due?

The outstanding balance on the wedding package needs to be paid in full 4 weeks before the date of your wedding.

Do you offer finance options?

I am happy to discuss finance options for payment.  I also offer vouchers, so should you wish to add your wedding photography to your gift list, guests can make contributions towards the payment of your package up to 4 weeks before the wedding, when the final balance is due.

We have a budget in mind, can you accommodate it?

I am always happy to discuss what I can do to meet your needs within a budget.  However, please note that I do not discount my whole day service, out of respect for my clients who are happy to pay my full fee.  You will not get my services for the whole day for £200, so if this is what you are after, I’m not your girl.

What are your cancellation terms?

This is outlined fully in your contract, but the balance must be paid in full if you cancel less than 12 weeks before the date of the wedding.  Cancellation within 6 months of the wedding requires payment of 75% of the balance, within 9 months requires 50%.

Do you use a contract?

Yes.  I find it helps everyone feel comfortable and clear on expectations.  You will be asked to return a signed copy of the contract when you make your booking.

Do you charge for travel?

Yes, I charge 45p per mile when I need to drive, or for cover of public transport where relevant.

When do we need to book you?

There is no deadline for booking, and I have shot weddings a few weeks later before, however if you have a date in mind and know you want me, I recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.

What if we want to try you out before booking you for the wedding?

I offer couples an engagement shoot as part of my wedding package.  For those who would like to work with me before they book for the big day, stand-alone engagement shoots are also available; if you wish to book the whole wedding package following the engagement session, I will deduct the session fee from the final package fee.  This is only available by prior arrangement, and please note, I cannot necessarily hold the date of your wedding until you have book and paid the deposit fee.

What if I hate having my photo taken?

Don’t worry, lots of people (including me) find having their photo taken hard.  I am good at helping people to relax in front of the camera, and the pre-wedding engagement shoot gives us the opportunity to get used to working together, and dealing with nerves.

What can I expect from the engagement shoot?

Engagement shoots rock! We meet at a location of your choice, and work together for an hour or so, to create a set of beautiful photos to celebrate your friendship.  This can be combined with a recce of your wedding venue if you wish.

Do you visit our wedding venue beforehand?

Yes, wherever possible.  I like to visit venues beforehand, to get some feel for the lighting and layout, as well as ideas for good spots for special shots.

Our family is complicated.  How do we handle the group shots?

Lots of families are complicated, so don’t worry.  This is something I am used to working round, and we will chat it through at our first meeting.

We don’t want the group photos to dominate our day.  What do you do to avoid this?

I don’t believe in taking over your wedding day, and I certainly don’t believe in people waiting around whilst we do endless group shots.  We can discuss the best timing for group shots at our first meeting, and go from there.

How long until we get to see the pictures?

Delivery of your images can take up to 8 weeks after the wedding.

Are you insured?

Yes, I have full Professional Indemnity, Public Liability and Employer’s Liability insurance from Policy Bee.

How do we get the final images?

A DVD or USB of the high resolution images is included in my package.

Will you put our wedding on your blog?

Yes, unless you specifically ask me not to (which is absolutely fine).

Can friends and family see and buy images from the wedding?

Yes, your images will be placed in a password-protected online gallery which you can share as you wish.

Do you sell digital images, or just prints?

Family and friends can purchase digital images as well as prints from the online gallery.  Copies of the full wedding DVD/USB are also available.

Do you offer albums?

I have recently started offering albums through folio.  If you’d like to know more, just ask.

Can we get a second photographer?

Yes, I offer a second photographer option for an additional fee.  If you would like further details, just let me know.

What happens if you are ill?

In the unlikely event I am unable to attend your wedding, I will make absolutely every effort to find a suitable replacement.  I have never had to do this, but I am part of a UK network of professional photographers, so have great contacts should the need arise.

Do you do video?

No, I do not do video.  I am currently working on identifying some good people to recommend, but in the meantime, google is your best friend.

What equipment do you use?

These days, I work with two Nikon D7000s and a range of lenses.
