During the 2012 Oxford International Women’s Festival, I joined Amnesty, Oxfordshire Mind and Refugee Resource to photograph their ‘Come and Celebrate’ event, on the eve of International Women’s Day (the 8th of March).  The event started with a seriously tasty lunch, the afternoon included stalls from a wide range of (women’s) organisations and workshops (including relaxation, benefits & money, singing and African drumming), and the day finished with an evening film.  It was a lovely event to photograph, and I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to take quick portraits of attendees.  Below are a few of my favourites.

More images of the event can be found on my website here, including many more portraits.  Please contact me if you would like a copy of your own portrait.

Happy International Women’s Day 2012 (a bit late, I know!) – horray for the women of East Oxford; horray for the women of the world!

Some beautiful hands…

A few favourites from a one-hour headshot session with a lovely new client, Fiona, earlier this week.  Although I generally like to shoot clients on their own turf, or at a neutral location of their choice, as Fiona traveled from afar for the session, we ended up shooting at mine for ease and it worked well once again (see another shoot I did at mine with Liz, here).

Thanks for a fun shoot Fiona!

This lovely little man, Jude, invited me to a little party he was having with some of his old NCT buddies.  They’re growing up fast (all now two and a half, and several sprouting younger siblings – I’ve known Jude since bump-hood, and done shoots with him and brother Reuben before), and I had a great hour snapping them eating a very yummy tea, and playing with a train set.  Jude’s mum and her friends were really happy with the photos, and the Bee got to be fed by Jude’s careful hand whilst her mummy worked – perfect, very happy all round.  Beautiful watching these little ones grow, I think you’ll agree.  And I wanted to share my favourite shot from the session – but it seems to have become two shots – the one I intended to share initially is the second, but as I uploaded it, I fell in love with his slightly less confident stance in the first.  Thank you to having me at your party Jude!  And looking forward to many more sessions with you in the future.

If you’d like to book me to photograph your little one and friends, I offer special rates for baby/toddler/kiddie group sessions – check out my group portrait sessions, and get get in touch – I’d love to hear from you.

Twenty prints of mine are up decorating the walls of the Magic Cafe on Magdalen Road (Oxford; click here for a map) for the month of March.  I’ve gone for a combination of some of my favourite portraits from the past year, five from the Oxford from the Skies series I took last November from a hot air balloon, and a few other random favourites, including recent blossom shots.  High quality prints are available of all images except portraits, at £20 unframed and £35 framed.  Go check it out, and while you’re there, have one of their brownies (if I haven’t eaten them all).

This weekend was an intensely beautiful weekend.  It started with Oxfork poached eggs in the sun on Magdalen Rd (mmm) on Saturday morning, and finished on Sunday evening with a piece of cake at The Isis, down by the river.  We were in time to catch the sunset down there, and it was fantabulous.  The blossom has exploded out of nowhere, and suddenly, our local park, only a couple of weeks ago dusted in snow, is decorated with white petals from above, and purple and yellow heads of crocuses and daffodils from below.  I feel elated at this time of year – it’s so life affirming, and I can’t wait to spend more time outside, without so many layers on.  Unsurprisingly, this weekend I grabbed my favourite lens and took it along for the ride, and below are some of the results from Sunday afternoon.  Happy Spring (bring it ooonn)!

oh yeah!

Sunset on blossom – beautiful yellow light… mmm…

the 50mm at it’s best – i love being able to isolate a flower like that, but have the feeling of all the other petals beyond – probably about f/1.8

bye bye beautiful day… and so, to the pub (with a baby a pub’s a bit different, but still, to the pub…)
